QUALITY MANAGEMENT

The Energy Company makes use of its own in-house, on-site laboratory and conducts the following Quality Checks (QC) on all products received and dispatched to and from our storage facilities. Quick turnaround times of testing ensures that effective decisions can be made when receiving and dispatching various products. All other tests outside of the below fields are outsourced to accredited labs such as Intertek, SGS and Mobilab.

In fluid dynamics, testing viscosity is a parameter to measure the thickness or thinness of any given fluid. Density is the measure of spaces between two particles in a given fluid. Viscosity and density are the characteristics of any fluid, but there is no direct relation between viscosity and density. The Energy Company tests density to ASTM D4052 and viscosity to ASTM D445, using a calibrated Anton Paar DMA 4501 viscometer. Furthermore, we use an Anton Paar DMA 35 for onboard testing and secondary referencing using a calibrated DMA5000. This allows an independent high-precision density measurement in full compliance with ISO 12185.

Determining the water content of crude oil, refined petroleum products, fuels, biofuels, lubricants, chemicals, and other products is important for maintaining quality control, meeting trade specifications, protecting financial value, and enhancing process optimization. Knowing water content in hydrocarbons enables us to take steps to reduce risks from corrosion, safety problems, and infrastructure damage which can be caused from unwanted water content levels. The Energy Company test water content levels to ASTM D95 using two 7500 KF (Karl Fischer) Trace apparatus’s. Testing levels range between 1ppm and 100 000ppm with an accuracy of 95-99% depending on concentrations of water.

We make use of the benchtop LAB-X5000 XRF analyser which offers rapid and cost-effective elemental analysis and regulatory compliance screening (e.g. RoHS) for process and quality control. XRF analysis (X-ray fluorescence) with the highly flexible and powerful energy-dispersive LAB-X5000 offers quality assurance and process control requirements across a diverse range of applications; e.g. Petroleum & oil, wood treatment, minerals, mining, cosmetics, Cement, paper.Sulphur measurement is critical in automotive and industrial fuels. TEC makes use of A helium purge is used to assist in testing fuels and hydrocarbons below the 10 parts per million according to test method ASTM D4294.

At which temperatures will your sample burn, ignite, or cause fire? How are your flammable liquids composed, and what are their properties? Volatility is directly related to a substance‘s flash point temperature (flammability). We make use of Anton Paar’s flash point testing equipment as it safely and easily determines the values you require for the processing, storage, transportation, and classification of dangerous liquids. Products are all tested using ASTM D93 methods.

Anton Paar’s advanced automatic distillation unit performs highly accurate boiling range analysis of petroleum products, solvents, and other volatile organic liquids. The distillation behaviour of petroleum products such as fuels, solvents, and other volatile organic liquids is determined precisely, meeting international industry lab standards. The automatic distillation unit measures in full compliance with ASTM D86 (group 0 to 4), ASTM D850 and ASTM D1078 and ISO 3405.

Gas chromatography (GC) is a common type of chromatography used in analytical chemistry for separating and analyzing compounds that can be vaporized without decomposition. Typical uses of GC include testing the purity of a particular substance, or separating the different components of a mixture. Gas chromatography is the process of separating compounds in a mixture by injecting a gaseous or liquid sample into a mobile phase, typically called the carrier gas, and passing the gas through a stationary phase. Professionals working with GC analyze the content of a chemical product, for example in assuring the quality of products in the chemical industry; or measuring chemicals in soil, air or water, such as soil gases. GC is very accurate if used properly and can measure picomoles of a substance in a 1 ml liquid sample, or parts-per-billion concentrations in gaseous samples. We make use of the Agilent Intuvo 9000 GC is a user friendly 2-in-1 GC, in combination with an MS and FID.
